Increasing students' awareness of their role as thoughtful global citizens of sustainability, collaborating in a multidisciplinary context and the implications of this for them as future built environment professionals is an expressed aim of many UNSW Built Environment core and elective courses.

Exposing students to challenging social issues and considerations, that respond to needs identified by communities, to empower design for social impact, capacity and inclusion is the focus of projects such as the BEOutThere! Community Engagement projects as well as Low Carbon Living: Christchurch; Bike Hub; Nanjing: Inclusive Architecture and Water Sustainability student projects.

The XSection exhibition demonstrates multiply approaches to challenging boundaries.
