Sydney College of the Arts, a Faculty of the Division of Architecture and Creative Arts at the University of Sydney, will host a day of tours, workshops, public talks, demonstrations, exhibitions and much more as part of the 2011 Sydney Architecture Festival. 

Join us at the beginning of the day for a traditional Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony to launch the 2011 Sydney Architecture Festival Day at SCA.

Tours:

At tour of the historic Kirkbride Campus with Roy Lumby, heritage specialist at Tanner Architects

Join us for exclusive tour behind the scenes of Sydney College of the Arts.  The SCA Campus is located in the historic Kirkbride buildings in Rozelle, overlooking Sydney Harbour.  SCA moved into the refurbished historic sandstones buildings of Kirkbride in April 1996.

Kirkbride was Australia's largest public works project of the nineteenth century and has major historical and architectural significance.  Kirkbride was originally designed and constructed for use as a state-of-the-art mental hospital and nineteen million dollars was spent restoring and renovating the buildings for the new life as a contemporary art school.

Tours will run from 11.30am-1.00pm and 1.30pm-3.00pm  Bookings are essential on hhowardk@bigpond.net.au 

Talks:

A series of talks by artists, designers, architects and builders, including talks by the architects and builders behind the Emergency Shelter Exhibition.

11.30am-12.30pm:    Art, Architecture and Design:  Working within Public Spaces with Michael Goldberg, Robyn Backen and Russell Lowe

4.00pm- 5.00pm:       Emergency Shelter Exhibition, a talk by Joe Agius, Cox, John Tuxworth, Green Leaf, Bertram Beissel, AJN and LAVA

 Workshops

Sydney College of the Arts will host a series of free workshops for kids and adults with an interest in art and architecture.

Making art from everyday materials (ages 6-12)

Exquisite Corpse Drawing Workshop (ages 15-18)

Experimental Drawing (age 16+)

The above workshops will run from 11.30am-1.00pm or 1.30pm-3.00pm

A Time for Drawing with Rena Czaplinska-Archer (ages 16+)  11.00am-2.00pm

Exhibitions
