Parramatta’s most recognised public place, Centenary Square, will officially open on 25 September from 4pm – 9.30pm with a series of family-friendly activities and live entertainment The grand opening will also feature a live performance from kid’s entertainment ensemble Lah Lah and offer market stalls, roving entertainment, food stalls, a pop up bar, kids’ activities and a fireworks show.
A spectacular, state-of-the-art fountain will be unveiled on the night – a must-see water and lighting display which will be illuminated at night.
Importantly, this redevelopment has completely transformed the main thoroughfare to Parramatta which has not been significantly upgraded since the 1980s.
The $5m restoration project in Church Street Mall began in January and this historic space will be returning to its original name of Centenary Square.
The renovation works include the installation of new, modern street furniture, an upgrade of public amenities, new paving and a lighting feature projected onto Town Hall. Also see the refurbishment of Centennial Memorial Drinking Fountain and the clock back to its working condition.
The revitalised precinct will also offer enhanced street lighting, CCTV, and more open areas for outdoor events and Council is pleased to deliver a vibrant, exciting and safe precinct for locals, workers and visitors to enjoy.
