9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

30 Harrington Street, The Rocks

Alvaro House, Surry Hills

The Situationalist International drifted through the city randomly, deliberately disrupting familiar ways of experiencing the city; organised spontaneity. ‘Dérivistes or ‘drifters’ seek to experience bizarre encounters in unfamiliar places and left-over city spaces.

We will explore Sydney tangentially, beginning with the city’s quiet industrial western edge before trespassing through the back streets of Ultimo, Chippendale, Redfern and Surry Hills plucking out the most interesting and provocative urban and residential projects along the way.

The route and the conversation will be loosely structured around a number of contemporary architectural and urban projects, contested sites and politicized themes but the rapid gentrification of these dynamic suburbs will be a constant theme.

Projects include recent works by PTW, Seidler Associates, Rod Simpson, Tonkin Zulaikha Greer (TZG), Johnson Pilton Walker (JPW), Smart Design, Bligh Voller Nield (BVN), Mac Interactive, Engelen Moore, 6 Degrees, Dom Alvaro, Neeson Murcutt and FJMT.

Price

General $90, Concession $80. (+$30 if you need a bike). Includes free mini-city SAW guide.
