Described as a Vivid Sydney 2012 highlight by the light festival director, University of Sydney Honours in architecture candidate HY William Chan has now transformed the Sydney Law School for the Verge Festival with the light installation Palette of Urban Green.

Created from 100 environmentally-responsible timber pallets, Palette of Urban Green explores the issue of sustainable urbanisation in the architecture profession and juxtaposes the ever-changing relationship between the built and natural environment. Five cascading architectural towers produce an array of mesmerising light and shadow. The energy-efficient LEDs react to surrounding movement using high-frequency sensors.

Palette of Urban Green was commissioned by Destination NSW for Vivid Sydney Lights On! 2012, with over 500,000 local and international visitors experiencing the event. Made possible by the University of Sydney Union kick start grant and presented by HASSELL, the public artwork is endorsed by the Australian Institute of Architects and the Green Building Council of Australia.
