Sealing the Roof Joints - 1966 David Moore

Join architect Richard Leplastrier and Mika Utzon Popov for a look at the David Moore Photography Retrospective celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Sydney Opera House.

Leplastrier has never courted the limelight. Yet his architectural cohort recognise in him a seminal figure whose uniquely intuitive contribution to the Australian canon is complemented by his roles as educator, craftsperson, facilitator and inspirer of students.

Leplastrier’s architecture has been called ‘an ode to nature’. It’s a philosophical  approach deeply respectful of place, scrupulously site-specific, dedicated to minimalism and reflective of his interest in the teachings of Jøern Utzon and Tomoya Masuda.

Among his awards are the RAIA Gold Medal 1999 and the Danish Dreyer Foundation Prize of Honour 2009.

Mika Utzon Popov

With its attention to aesthetics, form, and spirit of place, Mika Utzon Popov’s artistic sensibility displays all the hallmarks of a remarkable architectural legacy. Concerned chiefly with the interplay of movement and light in space, his landscape drawings and sculptural installations are uniquely tailored to context, their purpose to bring architecture and the natural world into direct and integrated dialogue.

Popov has been working as an artist for over 15 years with worldwide exhibitions which have included Sydney, Copenhagen, London and Mallorca.
