SAF13 - Beaux Arts BallBy
Nov. 7, 2013
6 p.m. - 9 p.m.
Powerhouse Museum, Level 1, 500 Harris St, Ultimo
The Powerhouse Museum makes merry as we celebrate the fascinating world of architecture with a Beaux Arts Ball inspired party. Referencing the famous Beaux Arts Ball of 1931 in New York, where architects were decked out in costumes of their own architectural designs, our Ball will be a fancy dress party where you will get the chance to make and wear your favourite building!
There will be amazing objects from the museum’s architectural collection on display, workshop tables where you can whip up a cardboard costume or even a city, prizes for the best dressed, installations and fast and furious talks by some of Sydney’s best architectural talent as well as a chance to beat the daytime crowds and explore the George Nelson: architect, writer, designer, teacher exhibition, a comprehensive retrospective of the work of one of the most influential figures in American Modernism.
So show off your columns, dress as your favourite building while constructing a city and dance to the Cuban-swamp-blues-spaghetti-soul-western sounds of Hobo Bordeaux as we revel in all things architectural.
