Mark Cashman begins by examining an article on Great Australian Places appreciated by a range of people, postulating unifying architectural qualities that may evoke a rapport from disparate individuals. He then draws parallels with his own cathartic experiences of a selection of great architectural works, attempting to find defining threads for what makes great space and place.

Mark shows how MCK [Marsh Cashman Koolloos] employs some of these distilled architectural devices to attempt to create tranquil and sublime environments that strive for an individual experience of the spiritual – of the ‘other’.
