[un]made – Masters of Architecture ExhibitionBy
Nov. 28, 2014 - Nov. 29, 2014
10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
The Rooftop 92 King Street, Newcastle
Newcastle’s often overlooked King Street carpark will be remade for one night in late November for [un]made, a one-of-a-kind public architecture show displaying student visions of the city.
The building, which has stunning views of the harbour and has never before been seen in this guise, will be fitted out with a year’s worth of drawings, photographs and scale models depicting design proposals for sites throughout the region and in other countries.
For the Telstra exchange just west of the exhibition, Scarlett Whalan proposes artisan studios that invite public involvement. Towards Darby Street, Elise Honeyman has developed a project for a lively new theatre precinct.
Up on The Hill, Noel Yaxley has dug in an art gallery incorporating the reservoir under the Obelisk. Out at Elermore Vale, Dylan Try imagines a new life for the shopping centre. And in the carpark itself, Basil Bullock has radically cut into the slabs of concrete for a university building.
The exhibition, which is free of charge to the public, will open at 6pm on Friday, November 29 and close the following day. Opening hours on the Saturday are 10am to 3pm.
“The graduation exhibition is always a highlight on the Faculty calendar. It provides a great opportunity to celebrate the brilliant work this school produces, thank our professors for their continued effort and demonstrate to the community some of our ideas for the future of architecture.” Ava Shirley, [un]made Exhibition Co-ordinator and Masters of Architecture student.
