Five Good Ideas for a Sustainable Future

The new Government has a once in a lifetime opportunity to transform NSW into a greener, more liveable and economically vibrant state based on five good ideas recommended by the Property Council of Australia.
Five Good Ideas for a Sustainable Future, by the Property Council, sets out five workable solutions that are drawn from sustainable success stories from across the globe.
“With the right incentives, we can transform the way we use energy”, said Edward Palmisano, NSW Deputy Executive Director.
“We can create low impact and affordable communities. We can build sustainable growth. And we can green the built environment.”
The Five Good Ideas will help create a society where energy is distributed wisely, water is harvested, pollution is reduced, congestion is managed, waste is recycled and green buildings are rewarded.
The property sector can play a key role in this. We led the way through early green initiatives such as Green Star, NABERS and Mandatory Disclosure. We have shown innovation in delivering sustainable buildings. We can play a major role in reducing NSW’s greenhouse gas emissions.
The paper urges government to create a vision, show leadership and commit – from day one – to a bold legacy for future generations.
